These include:

Friends of the Botanic Gardens, Cairns (FOBG)

FOBG Is the largest volunteer group, raising funds for and awareness of the Botanic Gardens. They operate the Friends' House from Monday to Friday giving advice to visitors and selling shop goods to raise money for the Gardens as well as organising fund-raising events throughout the year. Friends Visitor Guides provide tours of the Flecker Gardens starting at 10am on weekdays.

The Friends' Gardeneers meet each Wednesday to propagate and grow plants for sale throughout the year to raise funds for the Botanic Gardens. At the moment this group is full (limited space available due to nursery conditions).

Plant Database Volunteers

Plant Database Volunteers assist with entering plant information into the Gardens Plant Database, an important aspect of any Botanic Garden.

Down 'n' Dirty Volunteers

There are a couple of gardening programs available for those who prefer to be outside and getting their hands dirty. The Cairns Botanic Gardens Down 'n' Dirty Volunteers meet each Wednesday from 9am until noon and take part in general gardening duties such as weeding, pruning, mulching, turfing and planting.

Visitor Enhancement Volunteers

Volunteers help our visitors to get the most out of the Gardens by answering questions, offering directions and plant knowledge on weekends.

Cattana Wetlands Jabirus

Cattana Wetlands Jabirus meet at Cattana each Tuesday from 9am until noon and are involved in general maintenance of the wetlands such as weeding, planting and revegetation.

Little Taccas

'Little Taccas' Children's Nature Activities Program is a volunteer program beginning on 23 February 2017 with registrations opening on 15 February 2017. It is designed to encourage children to learn about and experience the natural world with the opportunity to grow through the support  of caring volunteers and supportive parents in a safe, yet active, natural environment.

Esplanade ‘Sandpipers

Esplanade ‘Sandpipers meet every Thursday from 9am-noon to assist with enhancing the Esplanade’s gardens such as the Healing Garden in front of the hospital.

Natural Areas Management 'Stratford Nursery'

Natural Areas Management Stratford Nursery volunteers meet Thursdays 9am-noon and are involved in collecting native seed, propagating native seeds, propagating, potting up and weeding.

Tracks 'n' Trails Volunteers

The Tracks 'n' Trails volunteers maintain and improve the red, blue and green arrow walking tracks within the Whitfield Conservation Park and Ivan Evans Trail in Bayview Heights.


The Saltwater Creek "Salties" Volunteers maintain and enhance reserve areas along Saltwater Creek on Fridays.
